For the last 15 years, my husband and I have been operating a software company. Within that time frame I gave birth to 3 beautiful children. I have always enjoyed working with my husband, however selling software was never really my cup of tea. Heck, I need help just getting my smart phone to work sometimes. Let’s just say that technology and I doesn’t go hand in hand.
Kids have always truly been my passion. I can’t explain it. When my husband and I bought our first home, the neighborhood kids would come by often, even before we had children just to hang out and talk.
11 years and 3 house moves later, my kids are all nestled in school. I finally have time to do something that I really love. I had been toying around ideas for the last year, but never really found anything I felt passionate about until the idea of Parent Coaching came about. Truth is I feel like every single hardship I ever endured and lesson learned has prepared me for this important time in my life right now.
I feel a sense of urgency in our country that things need to change in the home. We live in a world where children are being bullied at record levels. Families are living completely separate lives even though they live in the same home.
What effects does this have on our youth today? According to the National Center for School Engagement, 160,000 students skip school every day for fear of being bullied. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says that suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24. A study led by Jean Twenge at San Diego University reveals that high school and college students are dealing with anxiety and other mental health issues 5 times as many as youth did during the era of the Great Depression.
There is a big disconnect going on in our country. But the good news is, it doesn’t have to be this way. We can bring calmness and peace back into homes. My role is to teach parents how to effectively manage some the of greatest challenges our kids are facing today.
If you feel like someone you love is struggling don’t wait, change can happen and the road to recovery is at your fingertips.
